Van Hise / Hamilton Construction Updates

Thank you, Madison voters! The referendum to improve Madison school facilities passed on April 7, 2015, with an 82% majority.

Construction at Van Hise is scheduled to begin September 2015. Please refer to this map for the most up-to-date building entrances and pick-up and drop-off areas.

Throughout the construction process, as always, we are committed to student safety and minimizing disruptions during the school day. In an effort to keep families and community members up to date on this work, we’ve compiled some frequently asked questions and answers.

The Project

With enrollment numbers on the rise, this combination elementary/middle school exceeded capacity in 2013 and 2014. Because the building is designed for a smaller student enrollment, simply adding classroom space is not a solution.

The major project that was proposed in the school referendum to alleviate some of the space constraints is the relocation of the library to the center of the building and dividing it into elementary and middle school spaces to free up seven classroom-sized spaces currently used for library activities.

The estimated cost of the proposed projects is $3,151,730.
